Principal’s Update

Students have made a great start to 2025, particularly our sixth formers who have worked tirelessly to complete their UCAS applications. We’ve begun a new tradition (thanks to the Paris Olympics) of celebrating each complete UCAS application by ringing the bell in the Sixth Form block. It’s a lovely way to mark this milestone in each students’ educational journey. The offers have been flooding in, including three Oxbridge offers, as well as offers from a host of other highly regarded institutions. All efforts are now focused on ensuring we get the grades!
Ramadan
In preparation for Ramadan, we ask all parents who would like their children fast during this period to complete the Ramadan sign-up form (see here). This ensures that we know which students are fasting so we can make arrangements to support them, ensures parents are not charged for lunches when they shouldn’t be and minimises food wastage. Please ensure that you have completed the form by Friday 14th February.
Parent Governor Election
We are very pleased to announce that following the ballot which closed last week, Mrs Sarah Perry has been duly elected. We look forward to welcoming her to the Local Governing Board and to benefitting from her skills and expertise.
Intermediate Maths Challenge (year 9,10,11)
On Wednesday 29th January 2025 over 100 of our year 9, 10 & 11 students participated in the Intermediate Maths Challenge. Students were challenged to solve complicated problems whilst using mathematical techniques. The competition encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and mathematical fluency. A massive congratulations to all our students who took part and we can’t wait to see the awards they achieve.
No Demerit Reward Event
At The City Academy Hackney, we believe in rewarding our students for upholding our expectations and values. All students who achieved no demerits last term were treated to a special event: a private viewing of The Incredibles 2 in the theatre with pizza and popcorn treats.
Additional Studies
A reminder that our Additional Studies programme has re-started. Our programme has a fantastic range of extra-curricular opportunities for all our students including orchestra, robotics club and TAG rugby.
- On Tuesday’s additional studies will be open to our year 9, 10 and 11 students and will finish at 16:30.
- On Wednesday’s additional studies will be open to our year 7, 8 and 11 students and will finish at 16:30.
All students have been given their new Additional Studies groups.
Year 7 & 10 Parent and Carer Day
Our Year 7 & 10 Parent and Carers Day takes place on Monday 24th February 2025. If you have not already done so, please ensure that you have made an appointment here. All students are expected to attend in full uniform.
