Students must wear correct uniform at all times
This includes on their way to, at, and on the way home from the academy. It is a symbol by which students are recognised within the community and it fosters a sense of pride for, and respect of, the learning environment.
Compulsory Items of Uniform
The following items of Academy branded uniform are compulsory:
- The City Academy, Hackney Blazer & Tie
- The City Academy, Hackney PE Top
- The City Academy, Hackney Coat*
*The coat is an optional item, but if a student chooses to wear a coat, it is the only one permitted.
The following items can be purchased at various high street stores:
- Plain grey jumper
- Blouse / Shirt & tie (Year 7 – 9 = white / Year 10 – 11 = blue)
- Flat, plain black school shoes*
- Grey skirt (straight skirt, no pleats) / trousers
- Academy Backpack or plain black backpack (no branding) – only bag to be used for carrying school equipment such as books and pencil case.
*Shoes must be polishable (not canvas or suede). They should be plain black with no visible branding or coloured stitching. Kickers are not allowed. Many students wear wallabee style shoes available at ShoeZone and Clarks.
Please help us reduce waste and make uniform more affordable by donating any uniform your child no longer needs. You can bring donations to reception at any point. We also have a wide range of second hand uniform available. You are welcome come to reception between 10:00am and 2:00pm (daily). Please call reception before you arrive to ensure we have the items.
Additional Items for Cold Weather
Students may wish to have these additional items when travelling to and from school
- Grey Academy branded coat – No other types of coat allowed
- Plain black gloves & scarf (no branding)
- Academy branded or plain grey / black woollen hat – (no branding)
- Plain black folding umbrella
Jewellery, Hair & Make-Up
- No jewellery except plain watches and a maximum of one plain silver or gold metal stud in each ear (must be removed for P.E.)
- Hair should be neat, professional, no dyed hair or patterns cut in
- Long hair, shoulder length or below, must be tied back with a plain black hairband
- No make-up
P.E. Kit
Essential P.E. Kit
This is for all students and must be brought to every lesson.
(The only exception is a medical note that states the student is unable to change into P.E. kit.)
- Academy branded rugby shirt or polo shirt
- Academy branded socks or plain white above ankle socks (no branding)
- Academy branded P.E. bag or plain black bag (string bag or hold all)
- Academy branded shorts or plain navy blue shorts
- Sport-appropriate footwear/trainers (no fashion shoes)
Additional Items
Students may wish to wear these additional items in P.E. lessons in cold weather or for religious reasons:
- Academy branded red sweatshirt
- Plain black base layer (no branding)
- Academy branded tracksuit bottoms or plain navy blue tracksuit bottoms (no branding)
Sport Specific Items
The following are considered essential P.E. kit when participating in these sports are:
- Rugby – a gumshield
- Football – shinpads
P.E. kit must be labelled with student names.
Essential Equipment
- Clear pencil case
- 2 x black / blue pens
- 1 x pencil (HB)
- 1 x green pen
- 1 x 30cm ruler
- 1 x reading book
- School Planner (provided by the academy)
- Knowledge Organiser (provided by the academy)
- 1 x rubber
- 1 x scientific calculator
