Principal’s Update
Published: Fri 11 October 2024Dear parent/carer,
Black History Month
As we move into October, we are excited to once again celebrate Black History Month. This year’s theme is “Reclaiming the Narrative.” Our school is beautifully decorated with images of influential figures from the Black community, and we have hosted special assemblies as well as providing a variety of educational and celebratory events (see below for pictures of our 6th formers at the Amos Bursary Event at the City of London). Our final celebration will take place on Thursday, 24th October, featuring a music, spoken word and theatre performance involving students from Years 7 to 13. To book a ticket click here.

Student Absences Procedures
We would like to remind all parents and carers of the proper procedure for reporting student absences, including those due to lateness, illness, or appointments.
Please ensure that all absences are sent exclusively to attendance@thecityacademy.org. This will help us manage records accurately and prevent unnecessary sanctions for your child.
We kindly request that you refrain from emailing or texting other staff members regarding absences, as this can cause confusion in our attendance tracking.
Relationship & Sex Education (RSE)
Afterthehalf term holiday, all year groups will be learning about Relationship and Sex Education during their PHSCE lessons. If you would prefer to withdraw your student from being part of this please click here.
Year 6 Open Evening Success
A big thank you to our wonderful prefects from Years 10 and 11 who played a crucial role in making our Open Evening a success. They did an excellent job answering questions from parents, giving guided tours of the school (highlighting our fantastic facilities), and distributing the school prospectus. We received excellent feedback about the event (our prospective students particularly enjoyed the Science Department’s fiery demonstration – see picture below) and we look forward to welcoming our new Year 7 students next year.

No-Demerit Rewards
At The City Academy Hackney, we love rewarding our students for always meeting our expectations and upholding The City Academy values. Any student who achieved no demerits last term (and there were over 100 students) was treated to a special event last week. They enjoyed a screening of Inside Out 2 in our theatre, complete with pizza and popcorn!
UKMT Senior Maths Challenge
We are very proud of the fantastic results achieved by our students who participated in the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge: 18 students achieved bronze awards; 7 achieved silver and 1 achieved gold. Congratulations to all but particularly to Antonio Fernandes who goes on to the Kangaroo round. See here for a full list of all award winners.
