Principal’s Update

Dear Parents/Carers,

Exam season has officially begun, our Year 11 and Year 13 students will now get to show all the hard work and effort they have put in over the past few years. We would like to wish them the very best of luck and look forward to celebrating their achievements and results.

My Child At School (MCAS)

It is extremely important that parents/carers stay up to date with the academy’s communications, particularly during exam season. Please ensure you have logged into our main communication platform, MyChildAtSchool (MCAS). Through MCAS, you can access information regarding reward points, detentions,  assessments, reports, and other important updates. If you are having difficulty accessing your account, please click here. If you are still experiencing issues, please email: communication@thecityacademy.org From September, please note that MCAS will be the only platform for communication with parents.

SLT Surgery

A reminder that members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) are available twice a week to discuss any concerns that cannot be resolved by your child’s Personal Tutor or Head of Year. If you would like to attend one of these sessions, please click here.

Attendance

Attendance and punctuality continue to be a key focus for the academy. Our aim is for all students to achieve 100% attendance wherever possible, particularly during this important time of year.

To encourage excellent attendance, parents/carers of students who achieve 100% attendance each week will receive a congratulatory message every Friday. Please note that appointments should be made outside of school hours. Appointments other than unavoidable medical appointments will not be authorised. Approval for appointments must be requested in advance by contacting your child’s tutor or the attendance team.

Increased Dinner Cost & Free School Meal Changes

Due to continued increases in ingredient costs beyond our control, the price of a school meal will increase to £2.80 (from £2.70) from Monday 1 June 2026. This change will take effect after the half-term break. Please ensure your child’s ParentPay account is topped up to reflect the new price. There will also be changes to Free School Meals (FSM) eligibility from September. These changes will make more pupils eligible. We encourage all parents who are not currently registered to apply for FSM through Hackney Education now. This will ensure that, if you become eligible under the new criteria, your details are already in place.

Basketball Success

Despite the busy exam period, TCAH’s Year 10 basketball team continues to achieve success. The team secured a strong win against Cardinal Pole in a highly competitive friendly match, with a final score of 38-24.

Well done to our boys on an excellent performance, as they continue to look strong heading into next year’s Under-16 season.

A special mention goes to Zion Jackson for leading by example and being awarded Player of the Match
