Principal’s Update
Published: Wed 29 April 2026Dear parents/carers,
We are now entering one of the busiest periods of the year as year 11 and year 13 begin their public exams. They are working very hard and we have put lots of systems in place to support them to do their very best. During this time, emotions can run high. Please do get in touch with your child’s tutor (details found here) if you have any concerns.
Football Shirt Week
To raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK and The Bobby Moore Foundation, our PE team organised ‘Football Shirt Week’. Students across all year groups had the opportunity to wear their favourite football shirts during PE lessons, while staff joined in on Friday. So far we have raised a fantastic £1087 – there is still time to contribute if you’d like to: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/the-city-academy-hackney-1

Summer Concert
On Thursday 23rd April, we held our annual Summer Concert. Students from across the school, including our Sixth Form, performed a selection of Motown classics, showcasing our core value of working together.
As always, the standard of performance was exceptionally high. A standout moment was the final song, “I’m Coming Out” by Diana Ross, performed by our choir. The audience responded enthusiastically, with many parents and former students joining the choir on stage for the finale.

Vaccinations Guidance
Measles and meningitis outbreaks in spring 2026 have reminded us of how quickly infections can spread in schools. Diseases like measles and chickenpox are highly contagious and can spread rapidly among unvaccinated children and young people.
The good news is that these diseases are preventable through vaccination. Vaccines are provided free of charge by the NHS as part of the routine childhood immunisation programme.
Please click here for the most frequently asked questions about vaccinations including where and how you can get up to date, if any doses have been missed.
Important notice
Please be aware that you may not park on Homerton Row to pick up your child. It puts children leaving the school gates at risk. The local authority have asked Enforcement Officers to patrol the street and we are working with them to make it a school street.
