The term is in full swing and students have been working hard and already making the most of all the opportunities available.
Sixth Form Absence Procedures
Excellent attendance and academic achievement go hand in hand. Expectations for 6th form students are the same as all other students. For any sixth form student absence, please inform the school by emailing sixthform.absence@thecityacademy.org. This must come directly from a parent or guardian’s email and replaces the need to call the absence line. If your child has a planned absence, they need to complete an Authorised Absence Form, which must be signed by both parents/guardians and their teachers. Please ensure all planned absences have supporting evidence. Any student arriving late to school without a valid reason and appropriate evidence will be sanctioned.
Meet the Tutor: Year 9 & Year 10
We have organised a “Meet the Head of Year and Tutor” event for parents of Year 9 and Year 10 students. This is a great opportunity to engage in open discussions with your child’s tutor and head of year.
Details of the event:
- Year 9: Wednesday 2nd October 2024
- Year 10: Thursday 3rd October 2024
- Location: The City Academy, Hackney (Theatre)
- Time: Doors open at 16:45, event starts at 17:00 and ends at 17:45.

Year 6 Open Evening & Mornings at The City Academy, Hackney
We are thrilled to invite prospective students and their parents to our upcoming Year 6 Open events at The City Academy, Hackney. These events offer a wonderful opportunity to explore our school, meet the staff, and get a feel for what we have to offer.
- Year 6 Open Evening – Tuesday, 8th October 2024. There is no need to book tickets as the event is open to all. Doors will open at 4:45 PM, with the last entry at 6:55 PM.
- Year 6 Open Mornings – Thursday 10th & Friday 11th October 2024. Each day will have two slots available for visits:
- Slot 1: 9:00 AM – 10:10 A
- Slot 2: 9:30 AM – 10:40 AM
- Please note that due to limited space, we kindly ask that only one adult per child attends the morning sessions.

Geography Trip – Walton On The Naze
On Wednesday, 25th September, our Year 11 Geography students participated in an educational trip to the coast at Walton-on-the-Naze. This compulsory trip was an essential part of their GCSE coursework. During the visit, students had the opportunity to explore the beach and take in the sights of the Naze Tower, directly linking to their studies.
Senior Girls’ Maths Olympiad
Lena Cade-Swindells Y11, Emmanuella Fernandez Y13, Holly Gibson Y13, and Akosua Benfo Y13 all spent time after school last week participating in the annual UK Girls’ Maths Olympiad. These exceptional mathematicians worked their way through a series of challenging maths problems and will see how they compare nationally when we receive the results in a few weeks.
