Principal’s Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’ve had a busy couple of weeks at The City Academy Hackney, with lots of opportunities for our students to display one of our core values: leading by example.

Our new year 10 prefects did an outstanding job during our Year 6 Open Mornings, giving guided tours to visiting parents and carers. Their enthusiasm and communication skills were so impressive that many visitors specifically asked that they be awarded merits.

We’ve also recently appointed our new Anti-Bullying Team, who will be working closely with staff and students to ensure that everyone feels safe and respected.

Black History Month

In the first week of BHM, our students have helped transform the school corridors with vibrant decorations celebrating Black culture and history. They’ve also taken part in creative workshops, including a plantain cooking session, which was a big hit with everyone. There are still plenty more activities to come (see planned activities here), including our Black History Month Performance. If you haven’t yet got your tickets, click here

Relationship & Sex Education (RSE)

After the half term holiday, all year groups will be learning about Relationship and Sex Education during their PHSCE lessons. If you would prefer to withdraw your child  from being part of this please click here.

No-Demerit Rewards

To celebrate students’ hard work and positive behaviour, all students who achieved no demerits in the summer term were rewarded with a special cinema event (supplemented with pizza and popcorn). Don’t forget you can see your child’s merits and demerits on MCAS: make sure you check regularly to see how they are getting on. If you haven’t yet signed up, please follow the instructions here.

Year 10 Work Experience & Career Workshops

Our Year 10 students have had an exciting start to their work experience and careers programme, exploring a variety of industries and learning more about the world of work. Over the past week, they’ve taken part in: workshops at Snap Headquarters, University-led sessions to raise aspirations and culinary masterclasses with professional chefs – see photos below.
