Principal’s Update
Published: Fri 11 July 2025Dear Parents/Carers,
As the academic year comes to an end, we have been celebrating our students’ hard work. It’s been an action packed two weeks at The City Academy, Hackney with lots of opportunities to learn and celebrate our community (see photos below)
Parent Communication: important information
From September, we will be using a new secure online portal and mobile app for parental communication called MyChildAtSchool (MCAS) to share important information. We believe this new platform will provide you with a more convenient and efficient way to access key information and receive communications from us. Parent accounts will be activated on Monday 1st September 2025. You will receive your login details on the same day as well as further information on how to use it.
Equipment for academic year 2025-26
Please note that from September, students will need to have a 30cm ruler and a clear plastic pencil case as part of their essential equipment.
Culture Day
Our annual Culture Day returned and was once again very successful. The aim of the day is to educate our students about the many cultures that make up our school community. Workshops included samosa making, flamenco dancing and gele tying. Our students loved celebrating each other’s cultures and learning from one another. It was wonderful to see them take pride in their heritage while embracing others’. This day was a perfect example of our City Academy values: Respecting Individuals and Commitment to Communities.

Trip Day
This year, students in Years 7–9 visited 14 different locations across London, including the British museum, the Wellcome Collection, the Science Museum, Kew Gardens and the Bank of England Museum. It was a fantastic day of learning outside the classroom, allowing students to explore the richness of London. At the same time, year 12 all took part in their Duke of Edinburgh expedition and fortunately experienced far better weather than last year!
Year 10 Work Experience
Most of Year 10 were put to work last week, spending five days in a variety of employment settings and gaining real insight into the working world. We’re proud to share that our students represented the academy exceptionally well and the feedback we received from employers was outstanding. Students went to a diverse set of placements from HTA Design, an architecture firm, to Westminster Magistrates Court and at least one student came back with a job. A huge thank you to Mr Tandoh for co-ordinating all the placements.

City Chef Competition
Some of our future celebrity chefs showed off their culinary talents in our City Chef Competition. Staff members had the pleasure of sampling the dishes.
Congratulations to Fayokemi & Cebelle from Year 8, who won first place with their mouthwatering burger, sweet potato fries and side salad.

Sports Awards
We celebrated an unprecedented year of sporting success at our annual Sports Awards ceremony this week. Over 25 awards were given out, recognising the talent and dedication our students have towards sports across the school. A huge well done to all involved!
