Principal’s Update

Dear Parent/Carers,

This is such a busy time of year, especially for our Year 11 and 13 students as they prepare for their final exams. They’ve been working incredibly hard, and we’ll continue to support them every step of the way through to the very last exam. We know emotions may run high during this period, and your continued support is greatly appreciated. Please do get in touch with us if you are concerned about your child. To help you stay informed, the exam timetables are available on our website here. Each student has been given a copy of their own timetable.

Football Shirt Week

To raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK and The Bobby Moore Foundation, our PE team organised ‘Football Shirt Week’. This event helped to highlight the importance of research into bowel cancer and other types of under-researched cancers It also gave students and staff an opportunity to discuss their favourite football teams! Summer Concert

On Wednesday 30th April we held our summer concert. Over one hundred of our talented and hardworking musicians and dancers performed at the Italy themed event.

Attendees were treated to an impressive and varied programme from Stevie Wonder to traditional Italian songs and as usual the standard was very high. Our sixth form students took the lead in arranging and conducting several items and we are particularly proud of their leadership and collaborative skills.

We also held a raffle, served delicious Italian Pizza and even had an ice cream van in the playground! All in all, we raised over £1000 for the summer music tour to Italy. A huge thank you to our talented performers and the creative team who put together the event.

St John Museum Trip

As part of our ongoing focus on developing students’ oracy skills, some of our students recently visited the Museum of the Order of St John. They had a guided tour where students explored the history of the church and the effects of the Reformation, and discovered the lasting legacy of the Order, particularly its role in founding the St John’s Ambulance Service. In the afternoon, students put their learning into practice by delivering presentations to museum staff and peers. The visit proved to be both educational and inspiring, providing students with deeper historical understanding while also strengthening their confidence, teamwork, and public speaking skills.

UKMT Maths Challenge Success

Every year we enter students into the UK Maths Trust challenges and this year we have achieved unprecedented success. In the intermediate round, a whopping 87 students achieved bronze, silver or gold certificates and 9 students were selected to go through to the more challenging “Kangaroo” round. We received the results of the Kangaroo round last week and were delighted that 4 students achieved bronze certificates (placing them in the top 30% of mathematicians who participated globally) and 2 students (Joey Thai Hoa Dong and Trevan Charles Mason) achieved silver certificates (placing them in the top 20% of mathematicians who participated globally). Trevan missed out on a gold by just one mark – an incredible achievement. Congratulations to all the students and thank you to the maths team who made it all happen.
