Principal’s Update

Dear Parents/Carers,

The next two weeks are particularly important for all year groups as they complete their Spring assessments. This includes the final set of mock exams for our Year 11 and Year 13 students before their official exams. This can be a stressful time for students and so we provide support in all the ways we can. Exam timetables and topic lists for all year groups can be found here. If you need additional support in managing exam anxiety, please contact your child’s Head of Year, you can find out who they are by clicking below.

Straight Home After School

As the weather begins to improve and the evenings become lighter, it is helpful to remind your child that we expect them to go straight home once they have finished school. We expect students to take the most direct route and recommend that they stick to busy streets. Students hanging around the local area in uniform will be sanctioned with a detention. These expectations are in place to ensure students’ safety. Senior staff patrol the local area at the end of the day and we work closely with the Safer Neighbourhoods Team too. Please support us by explaining to your children the importance of going straight home.

Musical Magic

Our students have once again impressed with their musical talents. Last week we hosted a visit from Sony and DJ Sigala (of Ministry of Sound fame). A classically trained musician, he conducted a workshop with some students from year 9,10 and 11 and recorded some of their singing, potentially for his next track. This week, some of our year 10 GCSE students performed at the City School’s Concert. They brought the house down with their own composition and played their various instruments to support other City of London schools.

Globe Theatre Trip

30 of our Year 10 students took a trip to The Globe Theatre to watch Macbeth as a well deserved reward for their ‘dedication to learning’ in their English lessons. Our year 10 students are studying Macbeth for their GCSEs and the trip has helped deepen their understanding of the play as well as being an enjoyable day out.

Hackney Food Bank Charity Run

All P.E lessons next week will take place at Mabley Green as students participate in our annual Charity Run. They have been training to achieve their best possible times and staff members are warming up to see whether they can beat some long-held records. All funds raised this week will go to Hackney Foodbank, which provides support to those in need within our community. If you would like to donate, we will be collecting on Thursday 13th & Friday 14th March, at the gate in the morning as students enter.
