On cloud 9: best ever GCSE results for Class of 2026
Published: Thu 20 August 2026Students at The City Academy, Hackney are celebrating the academy’s best ever GCSE results today, with a record number achieving top results and many achieving straight 9 grades.

Straight 9s and record results at The City Academy, Hackney
Top-achieving Year 11 pupil, Anna (pictured), part of the record-breaking cohort at The City Academy, Hackney, secured straight 9 grades and credits the incredibly supportive teachers for helping her achieve such great results.
Ugonna and Deniz, both aspiring Engineers, both achieved a string of grade 9 GCSEs.
Receiving his top results, Deniz, said:
“I’m really pleased with my results but I’m also going to keep challenging myself. I’m really interested in Mechanical Engineering and hope my A levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics – which will be tough – might take me to a top university like Oxford or Cambridge.”

The City Academy, Hackney achieved its best ever GCSE results today, plus its best A level results last week, with many sixth form students securing places at prestigious universities and degree apprenticeships with leading employers.
